The research team Bas&Be (Basque and Beyond), former Basdisyn, gathers syntacticians from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Deusto University, CNRS-IKER UMR 5478 and CUNY.
Bas&Be aims at explaining syntactic variation within a universal theory of human language. With this goal in mind, we analyze not only variation among languages but also among variaties and dialects. Although we approach to human language using data from Basque and its dialects, we seek explanations which take into account and are valid for other languages: our final concern is Language with capital letters.
Bas&Be is coordinated by professor Beatriz Fernández (UPV/EHU) and financially supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology (PGC2018-096380-B-I00). Besides, although it is an independent group, it is also connected with other research teams, such as The Bilingual Mind, coordinated by professor Itziar Laka (UPV/EHU) and supported by the Basque Government (IT1439-22), or the Basque Language Institute, under the direction of professor Itziar San Martin (UPV/EHU).
